Keys 689 - 691 Mucking About

Keys 689 - 691 Mucking About

Time has been in short supply lately (and jam packed with going from one thing to another). Workspace has also been in short supply. I cleared off my work table, put away all my regular key making supplies, and replaced them with paper quilling materials. It's been fun mucking about with paper quilling. So far I've been doing things free hand (which suits me better than following a pattern). I have some ideas for other ways to use paper but think I'll wander around without a plan/pattern for a bit while I catch my breath. Key 688

Key 688 is the first paper key I made that I didn't mount onto paper. I discovered that I really preferred holding and shaping paper with my hands rather than gluing it onto a  surface. It's not very precise but that's OK, I'm not very precise either.

Key 689

I was really missing using found objects until I made this key. The paper quilling was feeling too much like making a pattern that anyone could do. Key 689 is the first paper quilled key I made where I felt like I was adding a bit of my own flair. I'm still missing the found objects and already thinking about how I might sneak them into the paper creations.

Key 690

I bought a paper trimmer so that I could cut larger strips more easily. My cuts are slightly wavy but still much straighter than what I could achieve with scissors. The heart at the top of this key lost its shape a bit as the key progressed, nevertheless this key was fun to make and I think the end result is a reflection of that fun.

Key 691

I'm really interested in making white keys. It was strange to go back to the thin quilling paper and try white after the bold colours of the previous key. I'll need to be more delicate with the glue in future when using these smaller white strips; the strips got discoloured by the glue (well, the oils/dirt on my hands), which resulted in a less pure look.

I'm going to keep mucking about with this for a bit and see where it goes. I mean...It's not like I haven't got thousands of keys ahead of me...
