Still Going: Keys 2778 - 2784

Yes somedays I do feel a bit unmotivated and really question what I am doing making keys - then I end up with something like Key 2784 and I am excited about how some rusty old shower curtain rings can make sense as a key…then I look at it later and go “meh” it’s hot out and what’s the point…but ultimately I do like making the keys and I am interested to see what will come to life. and what it all means. Here are the latest:

Key 2778 is made from a large heart cuff bracelet that wrapped around my wrist for many years - I flattened it out and put a metal heart decoration in the centre of it. The shaft is a piece of metal with a small gear attached to it - no idea what that was from or for. The bottom is sewing machine parts and other metal bits and, of course, jewellery bits everywhere. Oh and I covered much of this key with seed beads to give it some heft.

Key 2779 is made with a lovely butterfly brooch that was part of a gift of jewellery that belonged to the gift giver’s mom and grandma - true treasures! The bottom bit is part of a broken sparkly hair clip that must have been very large as I am getting lots of pieces from it.

Key 2780 is made from washers and an old key, jewellery bits, a cash register part, and small tumblers from locks.

Key 2781 is made from metal rings, cash register gears, a purse pendant, other jewellery bits and lots and lots of “sea glass bits” that I bought years ago (sold at a craft store as filler for vases). The centre ring is a fancy gold bracelet with pink leather and white rhinestones. A mysterious key I say.

Key 2782 is made entirely from jewellery bits.

Key 2783 is made from cash register parts (the centre shaft, the gear, and flags - pretty sure PB stands for Parts Balance), jewellery bits, and a flower with some sort of iridescent paint on it that I rescued from a cell phone cover that I got at a thrift store - a super find as there were all kinds of lovely sparkly bits on it.

Key 2784 is made from rusty shower hooks that look far better here then they did in my basement bathroom, a rusty metal rod, a lock, and a few jewellery bits (including some sparkles on the other side that don’t really show up that well in the photo).
